How to end a process in windows?

Before learning to end a process in windows, the first question that arises in mind is why do we need to end a process? Well, actually sometimes a windows application may hang when you try to run it and in that case the application is actually running in the background but you can't see the results. A perfect example would be when you try to launch your web browser and it fails to launch, then if you try to launch it again, you may get an alert that the application is already running but in reality it's not. In that case the problem can be solved by ending the process.
